Print quality tools on the OfficeJet 3830 control panel
HP’s print-quality article for the OfficeJet 3830 and 5730 families uses the touch display rather than an app.
Tasks in HP’s order
- Swipe left, touch Setup, Tools, then Clean Cartridges. A Print Quality Diagnostic report prints; HP says you can run two more cleaning cycles if needed.
- If ink smears the back of printouts, use Setup, Tools, Clean Page Smears.
- Replace non-HP or refilled cartridges with genuine HP cartridges. HP notes the printer has a backup mode: remove a low or empty cartridge to keep printing, with lighter black or grayscale color.
- Plain paper with ColorLok technology suits text and graphics; HP suggests HP Advanced Photo Paper for photos.

“Out of paper” when the OfficeJet 3830 does not pick paper
HP has a separate article for the case where the printer makes printing noises but no paper moves, from the input tray or from the ADF.
Models and cases it covers
- OfficeJet 3830, 3831, 3832, 3833, 3834 and 3835, DeskJet Ink Advantage 3835, 3836 and 3838, and DeskJet Ink Advantage Ultra 5738 and 5739.
- Two sections: the printer does not pick paper from the input tray, and the printer does not pick up paper from the ADF.

Receiving faxes on a computer with HP Digital Fax
HP lists its Digital Fax article on the OfficeJet 3830 series page. The feature saves incoming faxes to a folder or sends them to an email account.
What HP says to check
- Fax must already work: the printer needs a telephone line or digital phone service, and the HP app must be installed.
- Network connections support saving to a network folder and fax to email; USB connections support saving to a local folder only.
- The computer or server holding the folder must stay on; faxes cannot be saved while it is off or hibernating.
- If the printer has no Fax option in its control panel menu or in the HP app Advanced Settings, HP says it does not support Digital Fax.
